PRODUCT DETAILS

American stoneware was the most popular dishware of the 19th century in the United States. Produced mostly by potters on the east coast, blue and white spongeware was created for utilitiarian use and remains in good condition today due to it's durablity.

The color of antique spongeware was made by applying the cobalt oxide to the pottery piece with a sponge or rag. Sponges were cut into various sizes and stamped all over a piece or sponged border with a hand-painted central design.

The pieces shown are representative of items we have, to inquire about purchasing a specific piece please email shop@noelpittman.com.
