Spanish Baroque Walnut Vargueño

Dating from the 17th century, with the stand as a later addition, this vargueno features a stunning, detailed interior. Originating from a mix of Spanish and Oriental origin, varguenos becamse a common article of furniture in colonial Spain starting in the 16th century. The interior includes detailed drawers intended for important documents, jewels, and other treasures. The outside of the cabinent includes intricate metalwork making the exterior just as beautiful as the interior. This piece can be displayed open or closed, depening on your space.

Sturdy condition. The stand is later and associated. The vergueno rests on the stand but does not fit into it. The fall-front and its latches work properly.  On the interior several of the drawer fronts are likely redecorated or not original and the gilding has been refreshed. One drawer is stuck closed due to shrinkage. The stand has splits in all the legs, but can still support weight.
